The work

Our Solicitor Apprenticeships are available in London, Bristol and Manchester and include one day off per week to study. You’ll be immersed in a legal team from the outset, providing the best possible start to your legal career at CMS. We’ll ease you into the role starting with a wide range of legal administrative tasks while you find your feet, including:

Attending client meetings and taking notes

Managing data/records including opening, progressing and closing legal files

Collating bundles for court

Understanding and utilising basic financial data

As you progress, you’ll take on responsibility for tasks such as carrying out legal research, preparing sensitive documents for a transaction or drafting a letter to a client. Once you’ve learned the basics, you will experience different areas of the firm and increase your level of responsibility, becoming an integral part of our legal team. You can expect to quickly become instrumental in enabling solicitors to deal with their legal matters in a timely and efficient way, ensuring we provide excellent client service.

The Programme

The support

Comprehensive support from CMS and ULaw over the six years of your programme will include:

  • Supervisor

A solicitor will be assigned to you from the outset and you’ll be allocated supervisors when rotating through the various departments. Supervisors will delegate and monitor your work on a daily basis.
  • ULaw skills coach

Working hand in hand with your supervisor to ensure that your training and development needs are being met and will provide one-to-one guidance and support throughout the programme.
  • ULaw subject tutor

Throughout your apprenticeship you will be taught by subject matter experts who are all qualified solicitors.
  • Mentor

A senior member of the firm that will act as a sponsor, take care of your pastoral care needs, and oversee your journey throughout the programme.
  • Buddy

A junior member of the team who will join you at the induction stage. Having been in your shoes, they will be able to answer any questions you have to enable you to settle in to life at CMS as seamlessly as possible.
  • Peers

Other apprentices throughout CMS who you’ll be able to meet to socialise and share experiences with.
  • Talent Acquisition Department

A point of contact within the department, who you will have met during your recruitment and selection process. Their role will be to organise forums and informal Q&A sessions to ensure that your needs are being met.
